The young employee, Hachiro Nazuka, found himself at the office as the clock struck 3 p.m. Sayaka Sone, the quiet, unassuming office lady of their department, tried to offer everyone some homemade ohagi (traditional Japanese sweet rice cakes with red bean paste). But no one seemed interested in eating any.
Out of either sympathy or kindness, Hachiro decided to try one just to help her out. And then—
