Surviving As A Butler In The Connett Estate

The unfortunate Baroness of the Orton family, who had not only lost her title to a cousin but was also sold off to Baron Barren for 200 gold, is me, Brienne. But I can’t just be sold off like that. I will gather gold, throw it in Baron Barren’s face, and find my freedom!

I ran away in disguise for freedom, only to find that the job market is extremely tough. The only job I could find was at the notorious Connett Duke’s estate. Even though I tried to refuse it, the offer was too generous:

“Don’t worry about the estate being empty since the Duke is at war! Basic lodging and meals are provided, with 4 days off per month. And a weekly pay of 2 gold!”

The compensation was too tempting to refuse. However…

Why is the Duke, who was supposed to be at war, actually at the estate? The fearsome Connett Duke’s estate, where it’s easy to get in but hard to get out. To survive and, more importantly, to get kicked out safely, I must follow three strict rules:

1. Avoid getting noticed by the Duke.

2. Don’t do the job too well.

3. Never, ever, ever let anyone find out I’m a woman.

So cute. Cute and even smart. This one didn’t bother me even when he was near. Although there were some bothersome aspects: too small, too white, too soft. Like a fluffy cream cheese.

“Where did something like this come from?”

The Duke thought it would be nice to keep him around and use him for life.

“Do it yourself. Discuss the budget with Derrick and have a copy of the warehouse key made.”

“A warehouse key? Um… I don’t think I should be handling that sort of thing just yet.”

“It’s not too early. Since you’re in a lifetime position. It’s good to learn things in advance if they’re going to come up someday.”

The Duke smiled, revealing his pure white teeth.
